Claire Mumford currently works to commission throughout the Netherlands for a variety of companies. She has developed her own signature style and is known for her creative approach.
Having completed a General Art and Design Diploma with Distinction at Bournville School of Art and Design in the late eighties, Claire continued het studies in Visuals Arts and Mixed Media at Goldsmiths College, University of London, graduating in 1991.
Her understanding of not only painting and drawing but also mixed media techniques (including photography, sculpture, ceramics, screenprinting and various textile processes such as weaving, tapestry and feltmaking) has stood her in good stead in her future work, paving the way for a career as a maker, first and foremost.
After a brief two year spell working both as a community artist and part-time lecturer in Drawing and Painting on a Foundation Diploma Course, Claire moved to the Netherlands.
To supplement her work as a visual artist she began working as a freelance scenic painter, decorator and propmaker, not only for theatre and scenic companies, but also for the hospitality interior branch. During this period she gained much valuable practical experience in terms of the materials and techniques used in interior decoration, both historical and contemporary. Working to budget and deadline, often within a team, with complex project requirements and multiple clients, provided Claire with a new challenge.
